Discription

Paserene Union 2020 is a bold yet elegant Syrah shaped by Tulbagh’s dramatic terrain, shale-rich Glenrosa soils, and a near-perfect vintage.

Crafted from low-yielding vines and bottled unfiltered, this limited release captures both power and purity. It is rich and expressive, with velvety tannins, vibrant fruit, smoky depth, and a seductive mineral core.

With only 2,187 bottles produced, Union 2020 is a rare expression of site, season, and patient winemaking.

Aromatics

Plum compote, jammy berries, crushed violets, star anise, warm spice, charcoal, dark minerals, and subtle smoky undertones.

The nose is generous and complex, balancing ripe fruit, floral lift, spice, and deep mineral tension.

Winemaking

Paserene Union 2020 is made from 100% Syrah grown in arid, shale-rich Glenrosa soils in Tulbagh.

The low-yielding vines naturally produce only around two tons per hectare, resulting in fruit of impressive intensity and concentration.

The wine was fermented in small open-top vessels, then matured for 22 months in seasoned oak, using a combination of new, second-fill, and neutral barrels. It was then bottle-aged for an additional year to allow full integration, depth, and poise.

Bottled unfiltered, this Syrah preserves purity, texture, and long-term ageing potential.

Pairings

Pairs beautifully with flavourful, spice-rich dishes such as:

  • Braised oxtail
  • Lamb shank
  • Szechuan beef
  • Duck with plum sauce
  • Aged cheeses with nutty depth
  • Bitter chocolate desserts
  • Black plum desserts
  • Slow-cooked red meat dishes
  • Rich winter meals
